What is Reiki?

Japanese kanji for Reiki

Reiki is a gentle yet profound technique for stress reduction that works to bring the body back into balance, positively affecting the body-mind-spirit as a whole by assisting healing on all levels. The technique was rediscovered in Japan in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui and brought to the United States in the 1930s.

Universal Life Force Energy (Japanese translation of Rei-ki) flows within and around us, and nourishes the organs and cells of our body, supporting them in their vital functions. Reiki helps to remove energetic blockages, restore balance and promote healing on all levels – Body, Mind, Spirit.

What Should I Expect?

During a Reiki session, the client remains fully clothed, resting peacefully on a massage table. The Reiki Practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the client’s body including areas around the head, shoulders, stomach, legs, and feet. Reiki treats the whole body-mind-spirit creating many beneficial effects, including feelings of relaxation, security and well-being – in fact, many patients fall asleep during a session! A typical session generally lasts anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour depending on available time and setting.
